Knowledge is my motto
on Today
Madrid-Spain- The Police. Today we had a train reservation to go visit Alicante. By less than half a minute the door for the train closed and we couldn’t get in. At least we were able to get 60 percent back of the return ticket.
Well... as we had to redo plans, we decided to take a hop on hop off tours to see the city.
We Purchased 4 tickets -we are a party of 8 but the other 4 were so pissed that decided to take another route.
On the line to get on the bus, suddenly this lady out of nowhere come screaming pushing one of my friends, at the beginning I thought she was complaining about cutting the line or something. But when we all got on the bus, she started accusing my friend of stealing her purse. She was an English speaker and kept insisting that my friend and her daughter opened their purses to confirm her purse wasn’t there. At the beginning I thought the Lady was out of her mind and told my friends not to pay attention and just ignored her. But the other lady that was with her and the other 2 men were on her side and kept asking for ...now all of us to show the inside of our purses. To my surprise she started calling the police. To calm down the argument, we all agreed we were going to open our purses in the next police booth near by. We got out of the bus and showed the police the interior of our purses. The police apologized on her behalf and after a document search- they also had to take our passport and do a little check, just in case- we were good to go.
To conclude, today no Alicante as we planned , no hop on hop off tours.
But to make something good out of the inconvenience, we treated ourselves to a delicious Paella in which according to one of my friends one of the best restaurant in Madrid. In the picture the Police with the Lady and a delicious 😋 Paella

Knowledge is my motto
on Karma
A karmatic lesson at my workplace. The concept of Karma in Indian religion is essentially described as "a universal causal law by which good or bad actions determine the future modes of an individual's existence." - Encyclopedia Britannica

A few years ago I witnessed a situation at my previous workplace that still to this day I consider one of the best examples of divine intervention I've ever seen.

The company I previously worked for hired a general manager to bring necessary changes to the organization.

In his first year, he updated our production processes and did what he considered necessary lay-offs. He also created new tasks and made changes to employees titles and positions.

In the interim, the ones that got closer to him benefited the most.

In one of the changes, he decided to switch positions between two female workers that were handling different accounts.

One was a friend of mine that coordinated the production flow of the main account in the company. It took her years to build the type of relationship she had with the representative of the account. And tons of efforts to help the company drive it to the millions.

The other was in charge of a much lesser account. But her eyes were set on the bread and butter of the company.

For my co-worker, the decision to switch her position was even worse than being laid off. But she decided to conform and go with the flow.

It was a smart decision as the flow later showed to be a blessing in disguise.

Just a few months later the company lost the main customer and all the staff that was assigned to that account got laid off.

As I told my co-worker friend, sometimes we never know how things will unfold. She was very upset at the time not knowing the change will favor her in a few short months.

For my other co-worker, she became part of the team that "lost the main account."

Was it karma? Divine intervention? Or maybe destiny. Only the intention in the action will determine that. But to me, it was the work of some universal hand beyond our control.

Knowledge is my motto
on Selfies
+1 for Selfies It’s hard for me to understand the selfie culture, but apparently this phenomenon dates back to many centuries ago. I just read in a Reader’s Digest article that “The first-ever selfie was painted in 1524 using oil on wood. In "Self-portrait in a Convex Mirror," 21-year-old artist Parmigianino depicted his own reflection”.

The article also mentioned a few interesting facts:

1- “Women take more selfies that men”- Umm, I wonder why that is?

2- “The average age of selfie-takers is 23.6” - I thought there was no age average, I keep seeing selfies in all age ranges.

3-“In 2013, "selfie" was named The Oxford English Dictionary's Word of the Year”. - And that was chosen unanimously - I wonder what historians will think about us?

4-“According to a recent survey, 68 percent of selfie-takers admitted to editing their photos before sharing online” - On occasion edited to the point that people almost erase their noses.

5- And the best for last - “In May of 2015, Kardashian published a book called Selfish, which is 448 pages long and comprised entirely of her favorite selfies. Sound absurd? Apparently not. Selfish quickly became a New York Times bestseller”. Amazing right?

But for the rest of us common mortals, selfies are not an expression of art as in Parmigianino’s self-portrait, rather—in my opinion—only a mere need to show face, to capture an expression in time, to get validation, to say I am here - see me.
