on Roommates
It starts off great, and then... Back when I was in college I lived in a building called "Excellence." Except, it was nothing of the sort. The apartment complex was roach-infested, unkept, and unsightly...but it was cheap! Yet, even with the low rent, I needed a roommate in order to afford living there. As a college student, money wasn't easy to come by.

So, I found a roommate after placing a post on the college bulletin board. And within a few short days, I met up with a girl who was interested in rooming. To me, this girl was like winning the roommate jackpot. She could cook, she enjoyed the same music, and overall she seemed like great company. Couldn't have asked for a better person to room with.

Then one day, she completely disappeared. No call, no note, nothing. Somehow her portion of the rent was still being paid, but she was nowhere to be found. Instead, I came home one day to find someone else entirely—and in my bathroom no less! That's right, a complete stranger had now replaced my roommate without any notice.

Turns out that stranger was my roommate's boyfriend. He helped himself to the space after my roommate dropped out of school and went to stay with her parents. Wtf. I was completely at odds over what to do in this situation. Should I let him stay and figure out how to cover the rent on my own until the lease was up? Or should I share the apartment with a strange male who I knew nothing about?

Ultimately, I decided to let him stay. Like I said, as a college student, money wasn't easy to come by, and the lease was up in 4 months. Eventually, at the first chance, I got the hell out of there and vowed to never have a roommate again. It was a horrible experience to have a complete switch happen on me and feel like I had no other choice but to live with it! Never heard from my old roommate either. Hope one day she reads this...

Anyone else have any roommate horror stories?

How do you countdown to your vacations? I count by how many “sleeps” we have left before we wake up on vacation day 😁
