Not everyone enjoys deep or serious conversations. Sometimes we just want to share what we did over the weekend, or describe a delicious meal we cooked for dinner, or comment on today's wonderfully clear skies. Just because these topics of conversation aren't serious doesn't mean they're not meaningful. In fact, many of these topics can naturally lead into other interesting and engaging conversations.

In my view, those who "don't do small talk" simply have an underdeveloped social skill.

@CindyHill I'm not particularly skilled at small talk. My attempts at it often lead to awkward conversations, that's why I avoid it as much as I can.

@CindyHill I don't mind small talk, but I've noticed that with some people the conversation never goes beyond this surface-level dialogue. Every interaction is "Love this cold weather" or "Just 3 more days till Friday." Trying to deepen the conversation typically goes nowhere, and the interaction quickly becomes frustrating.
